Tamenglong, April 02 2010: Assam Rifles alive the adage 'Friends of the Hill People' and 'Sentinel of the North East' since the raising day.

With genuine, sincere concern and efforts to provide succor to the poor and needy the 11 Assam Rifles under the 57 Mountain Division of Red Shield Division want to crush militancy and bring an era of peace and tranquility in the North East region particularly in Manipur.

Col PS Chhonkar, Commandant of 11 Assam Rifles posting here at Tamenglong in an interaction with reporters here afternoon today said keeping the slogan alive, the 11 AR in Tamenglong district has unique policy and extraordinary way, showing genuine concern for the people by providing them same environment and hope for the better future life of the weakest and neediest has given priority to remote villages, women and children under military civic action, MCA.

In the last financial year that is in 2009 the 11 AR is able to distribute as many as 30 polythene water tanks to remote villages of Tamenglong district and also constructed water reservoir at Sangrungpang village.

Musical instruments also have been distributed to self help groups and villages of Tekuaram, Longdi Pabram and other remote villages of Tamenglong district.

The unit also procured furnitures to ill-equipped schools in Mandeu and Tousang villages and distributed solar lamps to remote villages of Mandeu, Tousang and Aben village.

The unit also distributed sport materials to the villages of Longpi, Khongsang, Azuram and Aben to encourage the young talented youths aiming them to stray away from antisocial elements.

The prompt action and timely of 11 AR in a major passenger bus accident at Sangrungpang village of Tamenglong district many civilians were also saved.

Conducted various free medical camps at different villages of Tamenglong district, distributing gas petromax to remote villages organizing educational tour, financial aids, extends relief materials and training the youths into army or Assam Rifles were some of the good works of the 11 AR in the past last year, the source said.

In the current financial year the unit has a planned to take the cultivators and women to Rajasthan as excursion tour, construction of youth centre, organizing more medical camps, provision of giving solar lamps and lantern to remote villages, provision to organize dance and music competition and also planned to give training the youths below poverty line in the field of carpentry, driving and cooking.

All these efforts of the security forces will definitely win the hearth and minds of the locals and will be successfully crushing the militancy and bring an era of peace and tranquility in the region, the official said.
