Following government assurance to conduct magisterial inquiry to the circumstances resulting to the commit suicide by Shyamasakhi involving an inspector of police commando, her family and villagers agreed to take back the dead body of the girl lying at RIMS morgue.
The agreement was brought about in a talk between the representatives of the JAC formed in connection with the controversial suicide of the girl led by its convener, Kshetrimayum Indubala and Chief Minister, O Ibobi today, at about 11 am, at the official bungalow of the later.
A six member team of the JAC called on with the Chief Minister.
In the meeting, the JAC while informing that inspector, Chingtham Anand of Imphal west district police attached with the Mayang Police Station was behind the drastic decision of committing suicide taken by Khumukcham Shyamasakhi demanded arrest of the inspector within 24 hour and punish under criminal law.
They also threatened to intensify their agitations if government refused to initiate action immediately.
After hearing the demands of the JAC, Chief Minister observed that as there were no evidences to proof the involvement of the inspector behind the incident, it would not be a right step of the government to take action against the police officer and suggested for conducting a magisterial inquiry into the case and take up action according to the finding, the JAC informed reporters after the meeting with the CM.
Residents of Ngaikhong area in their efforts to lodge complaint with the Chief Minister met a hard struggle as they stayed the hold night at Wabagai Bazar last night following police blocking them on the way at Wabagai at about 4 pm yesterday.
Villagers coming on seven vehicles including four buses and a truck were blocked by the Kakching police at Wabagai Bazar on their way to Imphal.
Sticking to their decision to bring up the matter to the CM, they refused to back and stayed the night at market sheds at Wabagai Bazar and with the intervention of the Works Minister, K Ranjit who is also the local MLA, they reached Imphal today and met the Chief Minister.
Ranjit also assured the villagers that he would extend full co-operation in the magisterial inquiry agreed to conduct by the Chief Minister.
Keeping confidence to the Chief Minister and Works Minister assurances, the JAC agreed to receive the lifeless body of the girl.
Mother of the late Shayamasakhi who was also among the people came to Imphal, reiterated that her daughter, Shyamasakhi had taken the decision to take her own life by consuming acid unable to bear the ill-treatment and harassment meted out by the inspector.
She also alleged the inspector of raping her daughter repeatedly.
On March 28, on receiving a phone called from her daughter, one of her local brother was sent to escort her from the clinic at Mayang Imphal where she work.
But she came back in the morning of next day.
Shyamasakhi concealed where he stayed the previous night.
Suspect over the matter, she insisted her daughter to tell that inspector, Anand dropped her at Kakching Khunou Bazar.
Before she took the drastic decision, her daughter told her that she had lost all her prestige.
After relating the story, she committed suicide, Manimacha cried saying that the inspector was behind her daughter's dead.
Before this, inspector Anand frequently visited New Life Clinic where Shyamasakhi worked as receptionist cum pharmacist.
He also pressed her to phone her mother to say she will be his wife.
Manimacha relating words told by her daughter went to say that, her daughter was raped at gunpoint and threatened to kill her along with her family members if she disclose the incident and forced to sign on a paper.
