Imphal, April 02 2010:
Following assurance of the Chief Minister to institute either a departmental or magisterial inquiry to find out the truth, the body of Shyamasakhi Devi has been claimed by her family members today.
The assurance of the Chief Minister was reportedly given to representatives of JAC Against the Abetment to Suicide of Khumukcham Shyamasakhi Devi, during a joint meeting at the office chamber of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today morning.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister assured the representatives that either a departmental or magisterial inquiry would be instituted to probe into the incident and the process would be completed within a month.
However, the JAC proposed for a magisterial inquiry, according to convenor of the JAC Indubala Kshetrimayum.
The JAC also reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
The memorandum demanded that the accused Inspector Chingtham Anand Singh of Haobam Marak Irom Leikai should be arrested for taking up necessary legal action within 24 hours.
In the memorandum, the JAC has also mentioned that before her decision of committing suicide, Shyamasakhi had disclosed to her mother as well as some other friends that Inspector Anand had raped her at gun-point.
In case the Government fails to implement the demand, then the JAC would be constraint to take recourse to various intense agitations, the
convenor warned.
