More women voters than male in state

The final electoral rolls-2024 for all the 60 assembly constituencies of the state has been released by chief electoral officer (CEO) Pradeep Kumar Jha on Monday.
According to the final electoral roll, the total number of voters in Manipur stands at 20,26,623.Speaking to reporters at his Lamphelpat office, here, on Monday, CEO Jha informed that there is an increase of 18,981 electors as compared to the draft electoral rolls released on October 17 last year.
According to the draft electoral rolls, the elector population ratio was recorded at 55.04.However, the final electoral rolls witnessed a slight increase and was recorded at a population ratio of 55.54.The gender ratio has also gone up from 1066 in the draft electoral rolls to 1068 in the final electoral rolls.
Of the total 34,700 electors newly enrolled, 15,596 are male, 19095 female and 9 third gender, he revealed, while adding that a total of 5280 electors were found to have been 'expired' during the revision period while 16,509 electors have been removed from the electoral rolls.
PK Jha further informed that public, electors and representatives of political parties can verify the final electoral rolls by visiting the offices of ERO, AERO or booth level officer.
He also said that the final electoral rolls can also be checked on the website ceomanipur.nic.in.
According to the final electoral rolls, women voters outnumber male voters with total of 10,46,706 women eligible to exercise the franchise rights, compared to 9,79,678 male electors.
Among the valley districts, Imphal West has largest number of voters at 3,81,005 while Churachandpur has 1,82,732 electors, the highest among the hill districts.
The final electoral rolls were published after a three-and-a-half month-long special summary revision of voters' list with reference to January 1 as the qualifying date for inclusion of names.
Of the 16 districts, the number of male voters are higher than their female counterparts in Senapati, Jiribam and Pherzawl.
CEO Jha informed that special drives were undertaken to facilitate internally displaced people to enrol their names in the electoral rolls.
Special campaigns were conducted in relief camps to facilitate enrolment of the eligible voters and make the people aware of the importance of voting, he added.
Around 50,000 people including women and children are staying in the relief camps in different districts following the chaos and disorder in the state due to the ethnic violence that first broke out on May 3 last year.
Stating that in order to enrol more young voters in the electoral rolls, intensive activities were undertaken in educational institutions, universities and colleges during the revision period, the CEO said that electoral literacy clubs were also activated, special camps were organised in the educational institutions to create awareness and facilitate registration of prospective voters on the electoral rolls.
