Imphal, January 22 2024:
To beef up security measures in Moreh after Kuki militants' recent attacks, a sizeable number of Border Security Forces personnel have been sent to the border town.
Sources said, the BSF jawans were airlifted from Kangla to Moreh in helicopters.
It may be noted that the additional BSF personnel were rushed to Moreh after Kuki militants launched their fiercest attacks on State security forces recently.
The Kuki militants have, since May 3, killed 3 cops including Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anandkumar, and injured more than 18 personnel of the Special commandos and BSF.
SDPO Chingtham Anandkumar was killed by Kuki militants on October 31, 2023 .
After two persons suspected of murdering the police officer were arrested by police, tension erupted in Moreh with Kuki militants launching renewed attacks on the State forces.
Meanwhile, the deployment of the additional Border Security Forces personnel came amid growing dissatisfaction among the people and political elites against Assam Rifles.
Moreh since decades has a significant number of Assam Rifles personnel tasked to man the porous border with Myanmar.
The additional BSF jawans were brought in the town despite the presence of a significant number of Assam Rifles personnel at their camp at Key Location Point (KLP) Moreh.
When State security forces came under heavy attacks from Kuki militants recently, the Assam Rifles have been accused of not engaging the attacking militants directly.
