Linthoi Chanambam receives Bal Puraskar

President of India, Droupadi Murmu presented the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to 19 children, including young Judo player Linthoi Chanambam of Manipur, at a function held in New Delhi on Monday.
One child each in the categories of Bravery, Science & Technology, and Innovation; four children in Social Service; five children in Sports; and seven children in the category of Art and Culture received the award.
Speaking on the occasion, the President informed that this award ceremony is an opportunity to encourage the amazing potential and talent of young achievers.
It is also an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of children.
She appreciated all the children for their excellent work.
The President said that our children have versatile talents.
They have immense potential to create their own identity through dedication and hard work.
It is our duty to show them the right direction so that they can utilize their talent and energy properly.
The President noted that the physical activities are decreasing in young generations.
She said that due to less physical activities many diseases which used to be very rare in children and youth are increasing today.
She appealed to youth to learn at least one sport and participate in it.
She said that they may not take up sports as a career, but sports keep them physically and mentally healthy.
This develops team spirit in them.
Linthoi Chanambam, at a young age of 15, made history by securing a gold medal at the World Cadet Judo Championship held in Sarajevo in August 2022.She emerged as the first Indian to claim a medal in the tournament across all age groups.
Linthoi clinched victory in the women's 57kg category by defeating Brazil's Bianca Reis in the final at the Arena Hotel Hills.
Earlier in July of the same year, Linthoi showcased her prowess by winning a gold medal in the 63kg category of the cadet event at the Asian Cadet & Junior Judo Championship 2022 in Bangkok.
Having first demonstrated her talent by winning gold at the Sub-junior National Championships in 2018, Linthoi continued her winning streak with gold medals at the National Championships in Chandigarh in November 2021 and the Asian Cadet and Junior Judo Championships in Bangkok in July.
The Government of India grants the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriva Bal Puraskar (PM-RBP) award to children aged 5 to 18 years for their outstanding achievements in seven categories, namely Art & Culture, Bravery, Environment.
Innovation, Science & Technology, Social Service, and Sports.
Each recipient of PMRBP receives a medal and a certificate in recognition of their remarkable accomplishments.
