Chingsubam Akaba remembered

Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) observed 18th death anniversary of Chingsubam Akaba at Lainingthou Sanamahi temple located at Haying Khongbal Ufong Yumpham here on Monday.
The observance was attended by MEELAL president Ingocha Meetei, JN Manipur Dance Academy director Pukhrambam Bilash, Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA) Kanglei -pak president Moirangthem Naokhamba, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) president Longjam Ratan, Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) vice president Bidyapati Senjam alias Wakhal Lamjingba, Jiribam district information officer Nameirakpam Bidyananda, MEELAL advisor Ng Premkumar, WAMA advisors Waikhom Romesh Meetei and Hamom Nabachandra.
Speaking on the occasion, Longjam Ratan observed that the present unrest in the state is due to undermining culture, tradition and history of the indigenous communities.
Though it is not included in formal education, the younger generations need to know it through informal ways, he added.
The youth need to join and participate in politics so as to elect good leaders and subsequently form good government, he continued, while highlighting the need for knowing the root of the indigenes and finding out the enemy.
MEELAL president Khaidem Ingocha Meetei stated that the observance is organised every year to commemorate Chingsubam Akaba who took vital roles in preserving and developing Meeteilon and Meetei Mayek.
Attempts are being made for recognising the language in Indian classical language, he continued.
During the observance, prizes were also distributed to the winner of 17th Meetei Mayek competition organised by MEE-LAL for Class I-X.Floral tributes were paid to the memorial site of Chingsubam Akaba located at Wakha Leima Ching and a one minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the martyrs who laid down their lives for Manipur in the recent conflict.
