Senapati, November 02 2023:
A team of Mao police station on Thursday seized 47 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar while frisking and checking near Pudunamei along the Pudunamei-Kedima route, around 6 km east of the police station.
The suspected consignment was discovered in a blue Omni van (Maruti Suzuki) travelling from Senapati to Nagaland.
The driver of the car quickly halted the vehicle while it was about 100 metres away from the police team.
The driver then exited the vehicle and hurried suspiciously into the jungle, as there wasn't enough space to turn the vehicle around and flee because it was an inter-village route.
When the police team noticed the van driver's unusual movement, they went to the vehicle and searched it.
The suspected drugs were discovered stashed on both sides of the vehicle's rear door during the search.
As a result, DC/Senapati was notified, and a request was made to depute one magistrate.
Accordingly, Mao ADM Ningreingam Leisan, executive magistrate, was tasked with carrying out the necessary procedures.
The vehicle (NL01C-8105) was thoroughly checked upon arrival of the executive magistrate, in his presence and in the presence of witnesses..
Upon inspection, 47 soap cases were discovered concealed on both sides of the vehicle's rear door.
The seized items included 47 soap cases suspected of containing brown sugar, weighing 608 gm (without the weight of the soap case), one Omni van (Maruti Suzuki/blue in colour), a key and registration certificate (paper).
The seized items were handed over to the Mao Police Station, where a regular case has been registered under FIR No.5(11)2023 for further investigation.
