ANSAM, COTU suspend agitations with riders

Senapati/Kpi, November 28 2023: Following the request made by Naga Legislature Forum on behalf of the government for providing few more days to fulfil its legitimate demands including declaration of results to recruit 190 assistant professors (145+45 ST Special drive) and resumption of mobile internet service in the entire areas not affected by the on going violence, All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) in its meeting held with units has decided to suspend the agitation which commenced from November 27 .

In a release, the students' body declared, "While acknowledging the initiatives of the state government in partial opening of the internet connectivity in some parts of the district headquarters not affected by violence, ANSAM would like to urge the government for the same service in all the interior areas of the state not affected by violence and also to declare the recruitment results of assistant professors posts promptly as per the assurance" .

It then cautioned the government that in case of failure to translate the assurance into action this time, the Naga Legislators' Forum and the state government should be held responsible for all consequences and degradation of the education sector especially in the hills of Manipur.

ANSAM also said it can no longer tolerate the "lackadaisical attitude of the government towards the educational institutions in the hills" .

Meanwhile, Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), Sadar Hills.

Kangpokpi has suspended its economic blockade imposed on the national highways.

In a release, COTU recalled that the blockade was announced in protest against selective execution of law & order in Kuki-Zo areas.

However, after a considerable deliberation on the issue, the committee taking into understanding the hardships being faced by fellow tribals in the area suspended the agitation.

In accordance with the necessity that may arise out of the current dynamics, it will review the current suspension and enforce if required, the committee said.

It also appreciated the support given by the public during the entire course of the blockade, the release added.
