Two killed in gunfights; KSO imposes shutdown CCpur

Imphal, November 28 2023:
One armed Kuki was reported killed in a gunfight with unknown armed persons in Zoupi village area, located between Bishnupur and Kangpokpi districts on November 25 .
Following the incident, an emergency shutdown has been imposed in Churachandpur district.
The deceased has been identified as Khupminthang Haokip (21) s/o (L) Zanglal Haokip of L Phaikholum village, Kangvai sub-division.
According to police report, at about 2.30 am on November 25, armed Kukis engaged in a gunfight with unknown armed groups in Zoupi village area.
The gunfight lasted for around 30 minutes, during which Khupminthang Haokip suffered a fatal bullet injury while several others were left injured.
Khupminthang's body was later brought to Churachandpur district hospital in an ambulance, while people offered respect to him along the way.
Strongly condemning the incident, general secretary of Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Churachandpur issued a press release the same day announcing an emergency shutdown in the entire district, forcing ail shops and markets to close immediately.
Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) Media & Publicity head Ginza Vualzong also released a statement the same day condemning the gunfight and appealed to the central government to take all necessary actions in this regard.
Meanwhile, one armed Kuki, identified as Thanzangam (38) was killed in a gunfight between armed Kuki groups at Tingkai Khunou in Zoujangtek area of Kangpokpi district around 12.30 am on Monday.
