Adoptive & prospective adoptive parents meet 2023 kicks off

Imphal, November 28 2023:
The Social Welfare Department kicked off the "Adoptive parents and prospective adoptive parents meet, 2023" at Sangai Hall of Imphal Hotel today.
Speaking on the occasion, Social Welfare Director Ngangom Uttam stressed on the importance of following the official rules and regulations while adopting children and not treating the matter lightly or impulsively.
Stating that there are cases of illegal adoptions, the Social Welfare Director pointed out that these adoptions can cause huge problems for the family in the future.
Talking about the rules of adoption, the Director first advised prospective parents to register themselves with the relevant officials at the Social Welfare Department with the payment of a registration fee.
In addition, he urged people who are unable to care for their newly born babies to surrender the children to the Department instead of resorting to any unfortunate measures.
He added that the identities of the parents will be kept anonymous.
These surrendered children will be adopted by people who do not have any children of their own, he stated.
Speaking as the guest of honour, Ram Charan, Integrated Finance Officer, Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) New Delhi also urged people to follow the law during their adoption processes.
Bantee Singh Konthoujam, Joint Director (ICDS) and Jiteshwor Keisham, Joint Director, Social Welfare Department also attended the meet as functional president and guest of honour respectively.
