CM calls for collective peace efforts

Chief Minister N Biren has called upon one and all to work collectively to bring an end to the protracted violence besieging the State and restore peace.
Pointing out that Manipur is currently passing through a restive situation, Biren appealed to all the people to work collectively towards restoring peace in the State.
All the leaders, media persons, academicians and politicians need to work together to bring a solution to the Manipur crisis, he said.
"Let us leave aside all political differences and fight collectively against all forces which challenging the State's unity and the National unity", the Chief Minister said.
The State Government has been working hard to bring an end to the crisis and restore peace in the State, and the Centre has also been providing maximum assistance, Biren said.
"There are many people in Manipur who have excelled in myriad fields but we need to support each other.
Let us support each other and take Manipur on a higher trajectory of development", he said.
People can criticise the Government but all criticisms should have a reasonable basis, the Chief Minister said.
He also appealed to the citizens to point out the Government's failures or lapses, if there are any.
The Government will do everything to rectify the lapses/mistakes pointed out by citizens, he said.
Internal conflicts and mudslinging or undermining each other will only slow down the development pace of Manipur, he continued.
Apart from extending the benefits of CMHT to journalists as well as newspaper distributors, the Government has been taking up several welfare schemes for the journalist fraternity, he said.
He maintained that the media should exercise some discretion in publishing/broadcasting news items in view of the restive situation prevailing in Manipur.
The current situation of Manipur is very critical and as such, the present generation must act very tactfully, he said.
"If the present generation acts tactfully, the future generation will be able to lead a secured life otherwise they will suffer a lot", Biren said.
Decrying interferences in the functioning of media in Manipur and subsequent suspension of publication of newspapers and broadcasting of news bulletins, the Chief Minister stated that no one should interfere in the functioning of media as far as possible.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of vernacular daily Sanaleibak held at Hotel Imphal on Monday where MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, IPR Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan, MLAs, and UNACCO CMD N Irabanta were present, among others.
