Imphal, June 06 2026:
Manipur, under the BJP, has been divided into "three parts", and as such the "unfit Government" must be dissolved to bring about good governance and restore normalcy, said CPI leader Pallab Sengupta today.
Speaking to reporters at Irawat Bhavan, Imphal, Sengupta asserted that the people no longer have faith in the BJP-led Government to curb violence and restore normalcy.
Even after more than 3 years of the conflict, the BJP-led Government has failed to curb violence and restore normalcy, revealing its 'failed' governance.
Only a new Government that has the mandate of the people can bring about normalcy and peace, he said.
"Now, Manipur is divided into three parts - Kuki homeland, Greater Nagaland, and the valley Meitei area.
This is a very unhealthy and serious problem," Sengupta said, adding that the situation demands a fresh mandate through elections in order to bring about good governance.
Stating the party's demands, Sengupta said the Government must bring about peace and restore normalcy.
Saving Manipur is saving humanity, he added.
There must be a fresh election to ensure good governance, and the return of the displaced persons to their homes must be facilitated, Sengupta said.
There must be strict enforcement of law and order, and all culprits involved in the violence must be arrested and punished, he said.
Further, free movement on all National Highways must be ensured, and all hostages belonging to Naga and Kuki communities must be immediately released, Sengupta said.
The Manipur crisis which has been ongoing since May 3, 2023 has killed innocent civilians and displaced more than 60,000 people, he said.
Without mincing words, the CPI leader noted that the crisis deepened under the "strong influence of terrorist Kuki SoO groups" and the submission of a demand for a Separate Administration to the Union Government by ten Kuki MLAs under "their diktat" on May 13, 2023 .
While the crisis is deepening, the BJP-led Governments in the Centre and the State have not been able to restore normalcy, bring peace, or provide a solution, Sengupta said.
Two BJP-led State Governments and imposition of President's Rule have had no impact, he added.
The deepening crisis risks sections of the population, mainly Meitei and Naga, developing anti-Indian sentiments, which may harm the unity and integrity of the country, he stressed.
He noted incidents of clashes in Ukhrul and Kamjong, and the Tronglaobi bomb attack in April that killed two children.
The recent incidents of hostage taking has further escalated tension, making the situation extremely sensitive and volatile, Sengupta said, acknowledging that the conflict between the Naga and the Kuki community stems from issues related to land.
While the State Government is unable to control the situation, the Central security forces have not been helping it effectively.
This prolonged crisis in Manipur is largely due to the long negligence of the Central Government led by the BJP, Sengupta asserted.
The situation in the State calls for the BJP-led Government to be dissolved.
Fresh elections must be held to bring about a Government that is good in governance and effective in peace building efforts, Sengupta said.
The CPI, at the Central level, will be submitting memoranda to the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister, and fighting on the Parliament's floor for Manipur, he said.
