Lady advocates, CPI team urge Governor to bring peace

Imphal, August 23 2023: A team of AU Manipur Lady Advocates' Association met Governor of Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday and shared hardships and difficulties faced by the people of the state due to the ongoing crisis.

The six-member team of the association led by president Ch Kiranbala Devi appealed to the Governor for restoration of peace and normalcy at the earliest with a credible solution.

The team requested the Governor to take up appropriate measures to uphold and protect the territorial and administrative integrity of Manipur and to initiate proper enquiry and investigation into crimes commiited against women both in the Hill and valley during the crisis.

While assuring that efforts are on by both the Central and state government to bring peace and normalcy in the state, the Governor told the team that it is only through dialogues and constitutional process that amicable solution could be brought.

She urged the team to reach out to women in relief camps and enquire if there are any victims of crime against women.

The team was instructed to coordinate with the state police to check the number of FIRs filed till date related to crime against women.

The Governor also informed that her office has been extending continuous assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) through coordination with all officials and departments concerned.

A delegation of CPI led by its general secretary and ex-MP D Raja along also called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey and apprised her of the present situation of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) staying in various relief camps.

D Raja informed the Governor that his team visited different relief camps in Imphal, Moirang and Churachandpur where most of the IDPs want peace and normalcy to be restored at the earliest.

He said that some of the IDPs mainly children and women are in need of urgent medical facilities.

The issue of possessions of arms and ammunition in both hills and valley districts were also raised to the Governor by the delegation.

On the other-hand, a team of United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC) led by spokersperson Md Raees Ahamed called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey and urged her to take steps to bring peace, tranquillity and to save integrity and harmony in the state without any further delay as the Governor urged the team to take the role of peace mediator between both the communities and suggested them to convene meeting with all religious leaders for peace initiation.

She also appealed to extend all possible assistance for the IDPs and stated that peace restoration will be complete only when the IDPs return back to their homes.

Lt Gen (retired) L Nishikanta Singh also called on Governor and apprised her on various activities his organisation has been taking up during the ongoing crisis.

He informed that Governor that his organisation has so far donated Rs 20 lakh to different relief camps.
