Biren has no moral right to continue : D Raja

Questioning the State Government's failure to convene Assembly Session in time, CPI General Secretary D Raja has said that N Biren has no moral right to continue as the Chief Minister of Manipur.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the 70th foundation day of the Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) which was held on the theme "Protect the territorial integrity of Manipur '' at Hotel Imphal today.
The CPI General Secretary who is also a former Member of Rajya Sabha said that the State Government should have taken note of the gravity of the mayhem which began on May 3 this year and discussed the matter in the House by convening an Assembly session much earlier.

Decrying that the turmoil in the State has been going on for so long with the loss of many lives and thousands displaced till date, he said that the social turmoil will keep lingering until the BJP Government has been rooted out from the country.
Raja who used to take up issues of Manipur in the Parliament during his stint as Rajya Sabha MP went on to allege that the BJP Government is fascist and the same Government has killed all the essence of democracy in the country.
Stating that he had visited Manipur several times on different occasions, the CPI General Secretary said that he had been greatly disturbed when he saw the miseries of the victims of the present mayhem and common men in the State.
In his speech, MP Binoy Vishwam who attended the function as the guest of honour described Manipur's situation as tough and chaotic where both the Central Government and State Government have miserably failed to control the aggravating situation.
Claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initially refused to attend the recently concluded Parliament session even when the Opposition Parties demanded, he said that the Prime Minister attended the Parliament session only when the Opposition parties moved a "No Confidence Motion" on the Manipur issue.
While asserting that social reformer Hijam Irabot was a founder leader of CPI in Manipur, Binoy Vishwam asked the CPI comrades and Manipuris to carry forward the legacy of the social reformer.
He added that the CPI is closely attached to the State of Manipur and always stands with the people of Manipur, including in this hard time.
MSC/CPI State Secretary L Thoiren explained the genesis of CPI Manipur State Council and claimed that the party does not differentiate people on caste, creed, religion and sex.
"All people are almost biologically equal, the only difference is in the culture and religion they follow.
Hence, all should be treated equally and must be given freedom and liberty", he added.
Speaking on the ongoing crisis, Thoiren said that the restive situation was caused by the political blunder and incompetency of the Government.
He added that the volatile situation in the State cannot be considered as communal clash but it must be resolved through the Government's sincere efforts.
Maintaining that Manipur is the collective identity of both the hills and valley, the CPI State Secretary continued that the State would be stronger when the hills and valley unite together.
Thoiren also asked the CPI comrades to work on the line of collectivism and strive together to make the party more capable to fight for the cause of the society.
The function was also attended by CPI veteran leader Dr M Nara, CPI National Secretary Dr K Narayana, National Secretary Ram-krishna Panda, NFIW National Executive Member Asomoi Gogoi as the president and guests of honour respectively.
The speakers spoke about corruption, education, economy, privatisation and democracy, among other topics.
