CPI leaders, others call on Governor

Several organisations and individuals including a delegation of CPI led by its general secretary and ex-Rajya Sabha MP D Raja called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan this evening and apprised her of the present situation of the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) staying in various relief camps, said PRO Raj Bhavan in a statement.
D Raja, while informing the Governor said, his team visited different relief camps in Imphal, Moirang and Churachandpur where most of the IDPs want peace and normalcy to be restored at the earliest.
He said some of the IDPs, mainly children and women, require urgent medical facilities.
D Raja also raised the issue of possessions of arms and ammunition in both hills and valley districts and appealed to the Governor to initiate dialogue for a solution.
The Governor, while appreciating their goodwill gesture, informed the team that she has personally met with Central leaders and urged them to find ways to end the conflict at the earliest possible time.
The Governor informed that a CBI team has been constituted to probe cases against women and the Supreme Court has also constituted a committee of three former women Judges to oversee humanitarian measures.
Separately, Md Raees Ahamed, spokesperson of United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipur along with 5 others called on the Governor and appealed to her to bring peace, tranquillity and to save the integrity and harmony in Manipur.
During the meeting, the Governor urged the team to take the role of peace mediator between the communities and suggested them to convene a meeting with all religious leaders for bringing peace.
She also appealed to the team to extend all possible assistance for the IDPs.
Peace restoration will be completed only when the IDPs return back to their homes, said the Governor.
Lt Gen (Retd) L Nishikanta Singh too called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan and apprised her to improve education sectors in the State.
He highlighted the various activities of providing relief materials taken up by his organisation during this ongoing crisis including a donation of Rs 20 lakh made to relief camps.
