Moreh, August 23 2023:
The Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims' Moreh (COPMeV) refuted the recent claim of peaceful co-existence among all the communities in the border town Moreh made by Hill Tribe Council, Moreh; Manipuri Muslim Council, Moreh, Tamil Sangam, Moreh and Gorkha Samaj Samiti, Moreh.
COPMeV Convenor Th Budha Meetei in a press release said 'The joint statement made by the Moreh based community organizations is baseless therefore, the said organizations should issue a clarification along with relevant proofs to validate the statement' .
Recalling the tragic day of May 3, 2023 where the indigenous Meeteis of Moreh were compelled to flee to safer places from the atrocities of Kuki militants, COPMeV maintained that the indigenous displaced Meeteis from Moreh are now taking refuge in various relief centres across Manipur.
Urging the Government and authorities concerned to ramp up measures for resettlement of these displaced people at their native lands at the earliest, the Committee appealed to all concerned to consult the representatives of the committee while taking up such processes.
Further the committee expressed that it will be more appropriate to invest the funds for construction of prefabricated houses in strengthening the equipment of the State Forces and Village Voluntary Forces who are fighting against the Kuki militants who are creating havoc in the State rather than building temporary structures for the displaced people who yearn to resettle in their own lands.
