PCI to review Manipur crisis reporting

Press Council of India (PCI) would be constituting an enquiry committee to review if national and local media are upholding media ethics in reporting Manipur violence, according to PCI chairperson and retired Supreme Court Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.
Addressing a press conference at the PCI office at Soochna Bhawan, Lodi Marg, New Delhi on Monday, Ranjana said that the panel will review reports published in national and local media in relation with the Manipur violence.
It will also enquire if there was any interference influencing media reporting.
PCI had already sent communication to the authorities concerned and state government, she said.
The PCI chairperson also appealed to all media houses to publish unbiased reports and play their part in controlling the violence.
She further informed journalists to file report if they face any threat or unwanted situation while covering the situation in Manipur.
Earlier, a meeting of PCI members was also held during which members from different states discussed the present situation in Manipur and roles & responsibility of media in such crisis.
