Imphal, August 23 2023:
Stating that Kuki militants continue to keep firing towards Nongshum village which has several Kuki villages nearby, Nongshum locals demanded the government to set up a post of state force in the village to protect them.
Addressing a press meet at Ibudhou Nongda Lairen Pa-khangba community hall at Nongshum village on Wednesday, Konjengbam Abungo, a villager, said that Kukis also fired shots towards the village on Wednesday.
Despite this situation, the DC is asking the villagers to return home, which they cannot accept.
Considering the location, the village is a vulnerable site for armed attack by Kukis, who have been firing shots towards the village every now and then.
A commando team is deployed and some locals are guarding the village with license guns, but both the commando personnel or use of licensed firearms could not prevent Kuki militants from resorting to provocative firing.
In such situation, they cannot accept the instruction of DC Imphal East to return home.
They can only return home without fear if the government sets up a post of state force in the village, the villager explained.
