SFs set up bunkers in High Canal, Koutruk area

Imphal, September 15 2023: Security forces including BSF and CRPF personnel have begun setting up bunkers to secure areas of Imphal West and Bishnupur districts, which are being continuously attacked by armed Kukis.

According to a report, following the ethnic conflict which broke out in Churachandpur on May 3, armed Kukis have been relentlessly firing towards the Meetei villages from Phubala High Canal, located between Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts.

To put an end to the attacks, BSF personnel have begun setting up new bunkers in High Canal area on Friday.

Previously, security forces set up bunkers only on the sides of Meetei villages.

However, from Friday onwards, BSF bunkers started setting up bunkers on the hill side as part of security measures.

As part of the security measures being taken up by the government, personnel of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CRPF) have begun setting up bunkers on the hill side of Koutruk area in Imphal West district located adjacent to Kangpokpi district to curb attacks from the hills onto the valley.

Meanwhile, Imphal West district police conducted search operation in Konjeng Leikai under Singjamei PS on Friday.

During the operation, the team came across a sack lying near Konjeng Leikai Waisen Maril Khong culvert.

On opening the sack, the team found one M16A1 rifle with magazine, five HE 36 hand grenades and two launching tubes.

The seized items were handed over to Singjamei PS.

A combined team of special operation group of Thoubal district police and 33 Assam Rifles Thoubal also carried out search operation at Aripat village and Kwarok Maring village from 3pm till 6pm Friday and recovered one magazine with five live rounds and one carbine.

Another team of Thoubal district police conducted a search operation from 4.30 am till 6.30 am Friday at Samaram Mamang Leikai, wherein 85 houses were searched and 265 people verified.

On the other hand, a combined team of Bishnupur district police, 2IRB, 2 Naga Regiment and 169 Bn CRPF carried out a search operation in Saiton village area from 9.30 am till 11.30 am Friday.

During the operation, 20 houses were searched and 30 people Verified.

Imphal West district police also conducted search operation at Uripok Bachaspati Leikai from 6.45 am till 7.30 am on Friday, searched 35 houses and verified 70 people.

Another team carried out search operations in Dharamshala area from 11 am till 11.35 am, wherein 90 people were verified as a combined team of Imphal West district police, 7 MR and 184-F Coy CRPF carried out a search operation from 9am till 10.30 am Friday at Phayeng Kharang village in Imphal West.

In all, 21 houses were searched and 36 people verified during the operation.

A combined team of Tengnoupal district police, 21-A Coy AR, 122-C Coy BSF and 65-F coy BSF also carried out a search operation in Molnoi area from 7am till 9.30 am on Friday.

During the operation, two bunkers were dismantled.

However, there were no reports of any arrest made in all these search operations, the report conveyed.
