Committee calls for destruction of poppy fields

Kakching, November 05 2023: Recalling Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's statement that the Centre would use IAF planes to destroy poppy fields in Manipur if the State Government were to approach it for the same, the Khangabok Joint Co-ordinating Committee has urged the State Government to press the Centre to act on it.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Khundrakpam Bishan Mangang, convenor of the Committee stated that if this year's poppy crop is successfully harvested, then the State will be faced with even more severe challenges to its territorial integrity.

Thus, he urged the State and Central Government to destroy the poppy fields, failing which, the Committee along with State CSOs will launch a series of intense agitations.
