Imphal, July 19 2010: Even as lack of necessary infrastructure has been marring its smooth functioning, Maharaj Bodhachandra College that has 10 departments has been managing with just 5 class rooms.

Established in 1969, Maharaj Bodhachandra College, in short MB College, was recognised by the Government in 1980.But the functioning of the college has always with crippled with lack of necessary infrastructures and teaching staff.

Talking to mediapersons in this connection at the college campus today, social and cultural secretary of the College Students' Union Osas Sougaijam informed that a regular principal of the college has not been appointed for along time.

Most of the Depts in the college have also been affected due to lack of teachers.

At present, there are three teachers in English Dept and the post of three others are still vacant.

In Manipuri Dept, there are four teachers and two post are vacant.

In Education Dept, there are two teachers, four posts are vacant.

In Economics Dept, there are three teachers and three posts are vacant.

In Geography Dept, there are only two teachers and four posts are vacant.

In Mathematics Dept, there is only teacher and five posts are lying vacant.

Similarly, in Philosophy Dept, there are two teachers and four posts are vacant.

Moreover, for the 10 departments of the college, there are only 11 rooms.

However, among these 11 rooms, three have been rendered useless after the class rooms have been flooded with rain water, two others have been converted into godown while another is being used as quarters of the Chowkidar.

So at present, there is acute shortage of class rooms for conducting classes in the college, Osas pointed out.

As there is no proper drainage system, the ground of the college has been also inundated with water.

There is no proper fencing around the college campus as well.

Osas further informed that 12 posts of non-teaching staff in the college are yet to be filled up.

There is no head clerk in the college.

After two LDCs of the college have passed away, no one have been send to fill up the vacant posts.

Similarly, out of the four Grade IV employees, two of them have passed away and the vacant posts are yet to be filled up.

Moreover, there is also no librarian in the college.

Of the four toilets in the college, two have been reserved for the teachers, one has been rendered useless after it has been inundated while the remaining one is being shared by the male and female students.

Osas went on to point out that the existing books in the library of the college are not in tune with the prescribed syllabus.

Internet facility which is essential for study in this competitive world today is not accessible to the students of the college, Osas said, while informing that of the total strength of 271 students in the college, most of them are from poor families.

The Students' Union has also highlighted with problems with regard to lack of necessary equipments for practical of Geography subject, canteen facility, gardener and having only three white boards in the college.
