Business Advisory Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly today announced that it has decided not to have Assembly sitting tomorrow as the committee has reviewed its earlier scheduled of conducting the session on this day.
State government, particularly home department and social welfare department must take the control of drug abuse, consumption of alcohol and intoxicant items seriously.
Only than the increasing crimes related with drug abuse and other narcotic substances could be effectively control, he added.
MLA, T Hankhanpao of National People Party (NPP) who also took part in the discussion expressed concern over the increasing crime citing the recent incident of killing of a forest range officer by his drug addict son with a knife in Tuibong of Churachandpur district.
The incident was not the first of its kinds, such kinds of incidents related with drug abuse had occurred many times in the district.
In order to prevent repetition of such incidents, government needs to give special emphasis in control drug abuse and its related crimes, he went on to observed.
In reply to the call attention motion, Chief Minister, O Ibobi said that as the state has a long porous international border, authorities are facing hardship in checking trafficking of drugs into the state.
Not only from the Moreh side, from Mizoram side bordering with Myanmar, drug is being trafficked into the state.
Government has taken up various actions and programmes to control drug and alcohol abuse in the state.
The 10 km long border fencing being taken up between the border pillar no.79 and 81 is also part of steps taken up for control drug trafficking in the state, he said adding that another 10 km long border is also planning for fencing.
He also elaborately talked about the programmes taken by the state police department and social welfare departments to control the drug, alcohol abuses.
