The Imphal West District Council of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today conducted an inspection drive at six schools in the district.
In a press release issued by Secretary General, Imphal West District Council of DESAM, W Surjit informed that a team of DESAM volunteers inspected six schools in Imphal West district, namely Keisamthong High School, Nilamanjuri Primary School (Aided), Leirik Primary School, Kwakeithel Girls High School, Keisamthong Hodam Leirak Primary School / S Chaoba Primary School and Kwakeithel Junior School.
The campus of Keisamthong High School is found to be inadequate consequently all the students of the school cannot be accommodated during assembly.
There are frequent reports of students collapsing during assembly.
The generator of the school remains non-functional due to lack of fuel.
The condition of its biology lab is abysmal.
There is no cycle shed and proper playground in the school.
During inspection of Nilamanjuri Primary School (Aided) at 11.30 am, no students are found to be present though the attendant register showed presence of 31 students for the day.
The only three teachers of the school have gone for census work.
They hire another substitute teacher to teach the students.
Even cook and helper take classes.
Only 1 out of 40 students was found attending the school in Leirik Primary School.
The school has no usable toilet.
Out of 4 teachers in the school, one teacher K Indira was found to sign her name in attendant sheet on 11th & 18th April and 18th July which fall on Sundays.
The condition of science lab at Kwakeithel Girls High School is deplorable.
The newly constructed building of the headmaster was found unsafe to use.
The headmaster cannot work peacefully in his office as the building can crumble down at any moment.
Keisamthong Hodam Leirak Primary School and S Chaoba Primary School share the same building.
Out of 6 teachers of the two schools, 5 have gone for census duty.
The headmaster hires a local teacher to teach the students.
The Kwakeithel Junior School was found with thin student attendance during the inspection at 12.30 pm.
The boundary wall of the school is for namesake only.
There is no enough furniture for the students.
