Taking serious on the increasing drug abuse related crimes in the state, the House of the state Assembly today discussed for an effective measure to control drug abuse and consumption of intoxicated items.
Chief Minister, O Ibobi while giving reply to the discussion disclosed hardships facing by the state government in dealing with drug trafficking asserting that the state has a long porous international border with Myanmar.
Opposition members drew the attention of the House for formulation of a draft policy to control drug abuse and intoxicant items during the call attention hour.
In reply to the discussion, Chief Minister, O Ibobi who is also looking after the charge of home department Opposition MLA O Joy moving the call attention motion observed the alarming situation of drug abuse and it related crimes in the state drew the attention of the government to take action against those officers of the departments concern for not discharging their duties as government servant.
Despite the declaration of the state as dry state, the number of drug and alcohol addict persons and crime related with it are on the raise.
In such situation, a comprehensive policy programme involving civil societies is a must in the state, he observed.
