Imphal, July 19 2010:
A cyclist was killed when a Maruti Van knocked him down at Ghari along Imphal-Churachandpur Road at around 10.30 am today.
According to police report, the Maruti Van (MN-1A/7783) was carrying a sick person when it knocked down the cyclist.
The injured cyclist was rushed to RIMS for treatment but he succumbed to the injuries at around 2 pm.
The identity of the victim is yet to be established.
But he appeared to be around 40 years of age, 5 feet and 4 inches tall and have wheatish complexion.
He was found clad in blue shirt and grey trouser.
There was an umbrella and a Khudei in a bag which was found hanging on his cycle.
The body has been kept at the mortuary of RIMS.
Lamphel Police have seized the Maruti Van and a case has been registered.
On the other hand, at least 20 passengers sustained injuries when a bus turned turtle near Irengband Lamkhai along Imphal-Churachandpur Road at around 9 am today.
The passenger bus bearing registration number MN-05/1173 was coming towards Imphal from Loktak Project when the mishap occurred.
Condition of one of the injured passengers is said to be critical.
