Hunphun Luira Phanit 2024 commences

The Hunphun Luira Phanit 2024, an annual seed sowing festival began with vibrant cultural displays at Mission ground Alungtang, Ukhrul yesterday.
Hunphun Luira Phanit is a five-day festival marking the beginning of the seed sowing season and the start of annual agricultural activities of the village.
The festival is being organised by Hunphun Katamnao Long under the aegis of Hunphun Hanga Wungnao with the theme "Ngashan Hi Pangshapna" meaning 'Culture is Our Strength' .
The first day of the festival was marked by performing customary rituals 'Awungashi Rukthang' and 'Luikathui' by Village Chief HA Khayaiwo at his residence yesterday.

For today, the festival witnessed a colourful display of cultural performances and competitions such as tug of war, indigenous seed competition, open wrestling etc.
Former MLA Alfred Arthur Kan-Ngam, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kamjong district Dr Lucy Shaiza and HSL president Timwon L Shimray graced as the presidium members for today's celebration .
A number of cultural events such as Laa Khanganui, Khangatuk and Rai Khangathat, Ngaphat Ngayat, Hao Laa (Trio), Lungchan Laa (Solo/Duet), Zeipa Kaphar among others have been lined up for the remaining days of the festival.
It is worth mentioning that the last day of the festival which falls on February 19 will be marked by Hunphun Luira Nite with musical shows from local artistes including performances by Tangkhul Stand-up comedian Pakmi Mahongnao.
