The MHRC Chairperson inspected two refugee camps temporarily set up at Sangalok (Kheroram) and Phaikoh in Kamjong Sub-Division where more than 2000 Myanmarse refugees mostly Chin-Kuki are lodged.
It has been reported that there are around 900 refugees, mostly Shan and Burmese, are taking refuge at Sangalok camp and around 1200 refugee who are mostly Chin-Kuki are lodged at Phaikoh camp.
Interestingly, Chin-Kuki refugees are not willing to stay with the Shan and Burmese refugees.
Despite capturing biometrics of these refugees, 37 Myanmar Nationals from Aung Zeya of Myanmar were detected last Thursday.
On enquiry, the local police informed that they with the help of district administration entered particulars of each refugee in a form prescribed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
After inspection of the refugee camps, MHRC Chairperson interacted with village headmen/chiefs and leaders of CSOs including representatives of Raizan Long and Raizan Traders Association.
Local CSO leaders voiced the need for economic avenues and pressed on the need for trade centre in the area to boost livelihood means.
Responding to the grievances raised, Justice Saha assured that MHRC would make every possible effort to improve basic amenities including medical facilities and sanitation by communicating with the Government.
Emphasizing on the need of children education, Justice Saha called for provisions of learning centre at camps for children.
