Imphal, March 16 2024:
Manipur University vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra has informed that measures are being taken up to open a vocational course on drugs and HIV/AIDS in Manipur University very Soon.
He was speaking during a day-long sensitisation workshop on HIV/AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act 2017 organised for the students and faculty members of the university by the department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development at the university court hall, on Thursday.
Speaking as chief guest of the workshop which was organised under the sponsorship of Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), Prof Lokendro informed that just as the university provides benefits to the public through the First Aid course, MU is also trying to open a vocation course on Drugs and HIV/AIDS very soon.
This will also provide benefits to the students in addition to helping control drug use and prevent HIV/AIDS.
He pointed out that HIV/AIDS is a global issue and the United Nations is trying to come up with a scientific finding on the disease.
During the 80's, there were a number of Pan shops in the state where drugs were easily available and drug users also tried to influence others to use drugs.
Therefore, during those days, families used to send their chil dren outside the state for studies as well as to make them away from insurgency problems.
However, nowadays, due to the efforts of the global experts and the community, there has been drastic changes.
In this connection, the role taken up by MSACS is laudable.
The function was also attended by MU School of Social Sciences dean Prof Th Purnima Devi, MU registrar W Chandbabu Singh and MSACS joint director (CST) Dr H Diamond Sharma as presidium members.
