Commemoration of 125 years of Christianity begins in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, April 05 2024: The momentous gathering of Baptist, the 'Tangkhul Baptist Gospel (TBG) Quasquicentennial & Quinquennial Fellowship', under theme "In the fullness of Time" commenced yesterday at the District Headquarters ground, Wino Bazar, Ukhrul with overwhelming participation of Baptist congregation members from across the globe praising the arrival of the Gospel in the Tangkhul region.

The mammoth religious gathering witnessed joining hands of all the Tangkhul Baptist families by commemorating the 125 years of Christianity and glorifying the Heavenly Father for His boundless blessing upon His people.

The five-day TBG-125 is being organised by Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association (TBCA) and hosted by Ukhrul Town Baptist Churches under TBCA.

President of TBCA Rev Aping Khamrang declared the Tangkhul Baptist Gospel (TBG)-125 opened by calling out all Tangkhul churches that were affiliated to Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association ( TBCA) to uphold their allegiance to Baptist faith in the glory of God's Kingdom.

This was followed by a choral musical performance exalting with the song "Hallelujah Chorus" to mark the beginning of the celebration.

Rev Zaklei Kaping, Chairman of the Planning Committee while delivering the keynote address, expressed that it is the perfect time to thank the Lord for bestowing His blessings upon the Tangkhul community.

Meanwhile the Headman of Hunphun Village HA Khayaiwo in his speech stated that his great grandfather HA Raihao gave shelter to Rev William Pettigrew, American Baptist missionary during his stay in the village, permitted him to educate and to preach the Gospel for the good of the people.

And today we are reaping the harvest by celebrating 125 years of Christianity and education in Hunphun/Ukhrul village which is a remarkable achievement, said Khayaiwo.

Rev Losii Mao, general secretary MBC while speaking at the occasion lauded the TBCA leadership for hosting TBG-125, and it is through this vision and aspiration that has brought together international Baptist prominent figures at Ukhrul to praise together in oneness.

'TBG-125 has elevated us to the global Baptist gathering fellowship.

Ukhrul being the epicentre of gospel must resonate the good beyond the Tangkhul community in order to bring transformation in all spheres.

The hope that we are longing for love and peace must ensure to bring a new life for all', he said.

As a part of the programme, a monolith erected at TBCA mission compound and at Phungyo Baptist Church was also unveiled.

The celebration witnessed the spotlight show on Tangkhul "Past, Today and Future" by Phungyo Baptist Church and the journey of Rev William Pettigrew by Meiphung Productions.
