COCOMI reminds Shah of 'will be back after 10 days' promise

Imphal, July 01 2023: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah hasn't fulfilled any of the assurances he gave to different civil society organisations (CSOs) during his visit to Manipur and the same is disappointing.

In a statement, COCOMI said that the Kuki militants continue to attack Meiteis, not sparing even farmers and cattle till today and it contradicts the assurance given by the Union Home Minister.

Amit Shah assured that he would return after 10 days before leaving Manipur on June 1 to take stock of the law and order situation, the Committee reminded and asked why the Centre is not taking up actions against the narco-terrorists and Kuki militants who have been attacking civilians by violating the ground rules of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement till today.

How long is the Centre going to give a free hand to narco-terrorists or is the violence in Manipur not a problem of India, COCOMI asked.

Saying that intellectuals and the people of Manipur need to sit together and study whether the Government of India has a hidden agenda for not stopping the narco-terrorists, COCOMI claimed that the Centre seems to be still treating Manipur as their colonial State.

Isn't ensuring the safety of civilians in Manipur the responsibility of India, the Committee further asked and added that it won't be wrong to assume that Assam Rifles taking the side of Kuki militants is under the instruction of Government of India.

Urging all concerned to stop playing politics or creating division among the people, COCOMI said that the Government should take suggestions from all the political parties active in Manipur to save Manipur from narco-terrorists.

All the MLAs, excluding the 10 Chin-Kuki MLAs, must unite and place their collective stand on the State's integrity to the Government of India, COCOMI demanded.

The Committee also asked the Chief Minister to understand why a large number of people came out to stop him from resigning and take up appropriate actions to safeguard Manipur.

COCOMI also appealed to all civil society organisations to not engage in any activity which may create division among the people.

Saying that closing keithels at this difficult juncture is not advisable as it won't do any harm to the Chin-Kuki militants other than stalling 'our economy' and hinder supply of essentials to people including those at the relief camps, the Committee appealed to the womenfolk of Ima Keithel to instead focus on the wellbeing of the people and in safeguarding the State.
