Training programme on 'Homestead Farming System & IFS' begins

Directorate of Extension Education (DEE), Central Agricultural University (CAU), today organised a 3-days training programme on 'Homestead Farming System & Integrated Farming System (IFS)' at Conference Hall, CAU-NEC Model Farm, DEE, Lamphelpat, Imphal.
The training programme was conducted in collaboration with Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)- National Institute of Biotic Stress Management (NIBSM), Baroda, Raipur, Chattisgarh.
The inaugural function was attended by Dr S Basanta Singh, Director of Instruction, CAU Imphal; Dr T Matouleibi Channu, Deputy Director of Extension Education, CAU Imphal and Prof Th Robindro Singh, Deputy Director of Extension Education, CAU Imphal as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Basanta Singh said that the training programme is an important one for the farmers and they should take this opportunity to clear all their doubts.
He stated that Integrated Farming System (IFS) is a sustainable agricultural system that integrates different agricultural components and non-agricultural components, such as crops, livestock, poultry, and fish.
He mentioned that IFS helps to diversify income sources for farmers and reduces the risk of crop failure or price volatility.
Highlighting that training programmes have been conducted regularly at the 13 constituent colleges of Central Agricultural University Imphal, Dr S Basanta appealed to the farmers to avail the benefit of the training programmes and added that Manipur cannot progress without empowering the farmers first.
Prof Th Robindro shared that unlike other training programmes, progressive farmers have been invited as experts of the programme.
He continued that field visit and special training by academicians will be conducted during the three days.
