Ukhrul, September 15 2023:
Villagers of Jessami in Ukhrul district have been reeling under extreme inconveniences for the past many years as they have been deprived of basic amenities coupled with Government's failure to address their long pending grievances.
In a press release, Jessami Village Council (JVC) Chairman Nizote Mekrisuh highlighted the numerous problems faced by the villages under Jessami Block in Ukhrul district.
The lone Primary Health Centre of this area has been functioning without adequate doctors and without regular supply of electricity for a long time.
It may be noted that Jessami village was enjoying regular power supply from Nagaland from 1970 till 2012 when it got disconnected after the installation of 33/11 KV Power Sub-station in Namrei village.
Ever since the disconnection of power supply from Nagaland, interrupted power supply has become a regular phenomenon in this area, the release added.
Apart from the above, Jessami Village Council has to bear additional expenditure for jungle clearance for at least 10 times in a year from Jessami to Namrei, a stretch of 45 kms and for honorarium of two line-men engaged by the Council for maintenance purposes.
The villagers are paying rental fees for electricity though they are not getting regular power supply.
Lack of adequate doctors and proper medical facilities have added more woes to the suffering villagers.
In view of the immense hardships faced by the villagers, the village council had approached the local MLA concerned and relevant authorities repeatedly for redressal of their issues and grievances however no positive measures have been taken up in this regard.
The villagers continue to live in a deplorable state with Government offices established in the village existing for namesake only.
Amid such a tough phase, the Jessami Village Council Chairman lauded the noble initiative taken up by Dr Weri Mero, a medical practitioner working in the nearby village of Nagaland for organising health camps occasionally to address the health care concerns of the villagers.
