Imphal, November 02 2023:
Claiming that the sanctioned amount for two PMGSY road projects at Phungyar Constituency under Kamjong has been withdrawn without completing the work, the Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (Southern Tangkhul Students' Union) has cautioned that they will take up stern agitations if the Government fails to take up action against the erring contractors and officials.
Today, the student union submitted a memorandum to RD & PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand in this regard and asked the latter to examine the works relating to the two PMGSY-II projects viz Yaingangpokpi Bazar to Chadong (10 Kms) and Kangkum to Wangli Road (15 Kms) .
Speaking to the media later at Manipur Press Club, president of Southern Tangkhul Students' Union Yarchuiso Kashong claimed that the sanctioned amount was withdrawn fraudulently by the contractors and engineers concerned and erected the project completion signboards.
The signboard of Yaingangpokpi Bazar to Chadong project shows January 6, 2021 as commencement of work and July 5, 2022 as date of completion while Kangkum to Wangli Road project started on August 3, 2019 and completed on February 2, 2021 as per the signboard, he added.
Yarchuiso Kashong also said that 22 culverts had to be constructed under Yaingangpokpi Bazar to Chadong project but the work has been shown completed only after repairing some of the culverts erected by the Water Resources Department.
Urging the Government to carry out field inspection along the two road stretches within two weeks and let the contractors complete the work, he said that they will launch agitation if the demand is not entertained.
He also asked the Government to take befitting actions if any of the contractors and RD & PR officials are found misappropriating public money.
The two roads were enlisted under PMGSY by the Centre given its importance, Yarchuiso Kashong continued.
Claiming that no work has been executed along Yaingangpokpi Bazar to Chadong stretch at all while sanctioned amount for Kangkum to Wangli Road has been withdrawn without completing the work, he said that they won't allow some immoral persons and officials to rob the benefits of the tribal people.
He went on to state they will launch a campaign to verify whether the Government implements projects in their areas suitably.
