Another attack from Lailoiphai and Dongyang side : Sugnu still restive from constant attacks

Thoubal, February 16 2024: The assault on Sugnu continues for the third day straight as more Meitei villages were bombed and fired upon indiscriminately by Kuki militants.

Reportedly, today's attack was also carried out from Lailoiphai and Dongyang in Churachandpur district, the same villages which the Kuki militants have been using to attack Sugnu since February 14 .

One house got damaged along with several properties in the attack as one bomb fell and exploded at the residential area of one Y Ibohal @ Moirangningthou of Sugnu Mayai Leikai Ward no 3 last night at around 11 .

It is reported that the bomb fell directly inside the house but, fortunately, no one got injured.

A team of police led by Kakching SP, Additional SP and Sugnu SDPO rushed to the site where the bomb exploded and took stock of the situation.

Some houses situated at the river bank of Sugnu also got damaged in the attack.

Gunfights broke out with regular intervals between Kuki militants and security forces today too at Sugnu and the situation is still tense in the area.

Speaking to the media, a local Yumlembam Nandini said that the people of Sugnu have been made restless by the consistent attacks of Kuki militants.

Saying that Kuki militants have set up bunkers and dug trenches at Napat after burning down all the houses, she added that Napat which is situated on the western side of Sugnu just beyond Manipur River has been occupied by the Kukis of Lailoiphai.

Maintaining that she now also has a hearing problem and can't eat properly, Nandini urged the Government to save their lives.
