Judicial fraternity assists relief camps in Kakching

High Court of Manipur, High Court Bar Association, Bar Council of Manipur and District Court and Manipur State Legal Services (MASLSA) carried out a joint inspection of relief camps in Kakching district on Friday.
The team which included, Manipur High Court Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul, Justices A Bimol, A Guneshwar Sharma and Golmei Gaiphuishilu, District and Sessions Judge, Ukhrul Samom lbjen, Bar Council of Manipur chairman S Brajabihari Singh, High Court Bar Association of Manipur president Y Nimolchand, All Manipur Judicial Officer Association president Binny Ngangom, Manipur State Legal Services Authority member secretary Alex Muivah, judicial officers, Bar members, Kakching DC Somorjit and others met and interacted with residents of the relief camps set up at Sekmaijin and Elangkhangpokpi.
The residents conveyed to the team fear and concerns for the future, lack of job opportunities, shortage of money to pay for their children's education including money for books and stationery, the low sustenance of Rs 100 per week provided by the government and shortage of potable water and access to healthcare services.
Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul then instructed the DC to take up requisite actions to address the shortages, while handing over floor mats, mattress, charcoal and meiphu (traditional heater) to the inmates.
Speaking to newspersons on the occasion, Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul clarified that the visit is not on official purpose and added that the items were purchased with money pooled in by the judicial fraternity.
He then said that all including residents in the relief camps are Indians.
As such, it is the responsibility of all of us to help them, he stated, while assuring to talk to corporates to assist under CSR fund and to educational institutions to waive the fees for the children in relief camps.
