National Games: Manipur continue fine run, claim four medals on Day 5

The state cyclists kept up their medal rush and the fencer team claimed their first gold as Manipur wrapped up the fifth day of the 36th National Games with four medals.
Manipur's prowess in cycling continued to reap the rewards of medals on Monday with one each of gold, silver and bronze, taking the cycling team's medal count to nine including five gold.
The state quartet of L Ronaldo, Y Rojit, K Jemsh and Th Chinglensan dished out a strong showing in the men's 750m team sprint event to earn the gold medal.
On the other hand, the trio of I Matouleibi, T Monorama and Y Thaja bagged the silver medal in the women's 750m team sprint event.
In the day's individual cycling competition, Khoirom Rejiya Devi took bronze medal in omnium race.
Manipur's other gold medal came in fencing courtesy of a collective effort by Ph Anita Chanu, Khuboorani Laishram, Naorem Mina Devi and Waikhom Sonia Chanu.
They emerged top finishers in the women's team foil event after beating Kerala in the final match by a 45-41 margin.
Kerala were repre sented by Kanagallakhmi, P Awati Radhika, Sg Aarcha and Nyak Aishwarya.
Earlier in the semifinal, the state foil team produced a dominant show with a 45-14 drubbing of Madhya Pradesh.
Following the Monday's result, the state fencers have so far collected five medals (1 gold, 1 silver & 3 bronze).
Manipur stayed seventh in the medal tally with 11 gold, four silver and nine bronze as Services Sports Control Board were leaders with 32 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze medals, followed by Haryana (2nd), Maharashtra (3rd), Uttar Pradesh (4th), Tamil Nadu (5th) and Punjab (6th) at the end of Day 5 .
