Imphal, October 03 2022:
In connection with the circulation of a viral video on social media platforms that shows students of Imphal College protesting on the road on September 29 over the government's decision of postponing the College Students' Union Election to October 6; five student bod ies (AMSU, DESAM, MSF, KSA & AIMS) of the state have urged the students to maintain calm and focus on their studies.
In a joint press release, the five student bodies urged authority concerned to consider the future before issuing immediate notices which could upset or frustrate the students.
After the incident on September 29, other colleges also staged protests, which prompted the 5 student bodies to take note of the matter and as such, its representatives met and talked with the education minister.
During the talks, the education minister urged the student bodies to pacify the students and cease the protest.
Additionally, the arrested students were released on the day itself as part of the agreement.
However, there are reports that the students of Imphal College were being hunted down on Sunday and some were even arrested on Monday.
Thus, the student bodies demanded unconditional release of the arrested students immediately and for the authority concerned to stop trying to arrest any more students.
The five student bodies also urged the students to refrain from participating in protest and instead attend classes and focus on their studies.
