Manipur Loumi Lup observes 'Black Day' to mark first anniversary of Lakhimpur violence

Manipur Loumi Lup has joined numerous farmers' bodies across the country in observing 'black day' to mark the first anniversary of Lakhimpur violence wherein Ashish Mishra, son of Home Minister Ajay Mishra Teni, allegedly mowed down four farmers and one journalist under the wheels of his car on October 3 of last year during a farmers' democratic protest.
As per a statement issued by Manipur Loumi Lup, the function was observed at Irawat Bhavan, Imphal today.
It may be noted that L Thoiren, secretary, CPI Manipur State Council; L Sotinkumar, former State secretary, CPI Manipur State Council; N Singhajit, president, Manipur Loumi Lup; Ksh Santa, State secretary CPI (M) and U Rajmohon, vice president, Manipur Loumi Lup attended the event as presidium members.

Before the commencement of the function, the gathering observed a two-minute silence in honour of the recently deceased Moirangthem Ibohal alias MI who breathed his last this morning.
Notably, MI was a distinguished personality who worked alongside revolutionary leader Hijam Irabot in trying to unite the farmers and labourers across hill areas and valley regions in Manipur.
Following this, the presidium members including H Ibobi, secretary, Manipur Loumi Lup spoke at length about the reasons for observing black day, farmers' protest and their demands etc.
The statement has also listed a number of demands and urged the Government to fulfil them.
The demands include: to implement the National Commission on Farmers' Report; Save Loktak lake, remove Ithai dam, compensate people affected by Loktak Project; increase daily wage to Rs 600, provide at least 200 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year under MNREGA; repeal Electricity Bill 2022 and halt privatisation etc among others.
