CCpur, October 03 2022:
After a ragging incident at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Tuinom where class VI-VIII students were reportedly beaten up by their seniors (class XII students), the Siamsinpawlpi (SSPP), a Paite student body, on Monday conducted a one-day legal awareness programme in association with the school authorities at the school's dining hall.
Two advocates from the district bar association namely Songzamang and P Khamkhantnuam elaborated on issues ranging from anti-ragging law, RTI and PIL to democratic forms of government law-making body, etc.
The resource persons briefed the students on the term 'ragging' as defined by the Supreme Court and the types of punishment against students involved in ragging.
There was also an interaction between the resource persons and the students during the awareness programme.
SSPP general headquarters president H Thanglalmuan said that students at the JNV are fortunate to avail free education and other freebies provided by the government and as such exhorted them to give their studies top priority, while adding that the government's aim is to nurture them through education and ensure that they become responsible citizens, and not someone who causes mental, psychological and even physical pains by ragging their fellow students.
He also advised the students not to let such unwanted incident recur in the school in future and be an example to the school, the district and the state by excelling in their academic pursuits.
