Bpr, IW schools to face off in U-17 girls' Subroto football final

Imphal, July 09 2022: Madhumati Govt High School (Bishnupur) and Wangoi High School (Imphal West) entered the final of the U-17 girls' State Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament 2022 in contrasting styles on Saturday.

The first semifinal match saw Madhumati Govt High School (Bishnupur) ease their way to a 4-0 win over Bukpi Govt High School (Pherzawl).

Th Kethabi opened the scoring in the 13th minute as O Babita upped the ante with a double (16', 26') before I Priyadarshani rounded off the scoring with a 46th-minute strike to propel their side to an emphatic victory en route to the final.

On the other hand, Wangoi High School (Imphal West) needed a penalty shootout to seal their berth in the final at the expense of Free Progress Academy (Imphal West).

It was the Free Progress Academy team who took the lead when K Anju converted in the 12th minute.

However, Wangoi High School fought hard and managed to restore parity in the 49th minute.

Both teams were unable to break the 1-1 deadlock through the end of regulation time, resulting in the penalty shootout.

In the shootout, the Wangoi school girls delivered on five of their seven kicks against their opponents' four goals.

Meneka, Kimte, Remi, Thoibisana and Reena all made their shots count to send their team straight to the final.
