Imphal, November 17 2022:
North Eastern Sporting Union (NESU) eased their way to a 2-0 win over Yarkhok United FC (YUFC) while Manipur Police Sports Club (MPSC) held United Khawzim Brothers (UKB) to a 1-1 draw in the State League on Thursday.
Yumnam Monis Singh scored twice to propel NESU to a convincing triumph against YUFC in a Group A action at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong.
The early stages of the 45 minutes saw a see-saw battle coupled with some missed chances from both sides.
NESU, however, picked up steam towards the end of the first period and finally broke the opposition's resistance as Yumnam Monis on hand to capitalise on a chance in a goalmouth tussle, giving his team a 1-0 advantage in the 31st minute.
Buoyed by their opener, NESU went all out right from the start of second half and sprang a surprise on YUFC.
It was Monis again as the NESU striker made no mistake in firing in his second goal in the 74th minute, leaving little time for the Yarkhok squad to mount a comeback.
Later in the day, UKB and MPSC settled for a point each in the other Group A match.
After their frustrating first half exchanges, the squads ramped up the intensity after the break.
UKB were the first to register a successful strike on target.
The game finally sputtered to life in the 65th minute when Manglienboi Neihsial took a well-timed pass and calmly despatched the ball into the back of the net.
MPSC responded nine minutes later courtesy of a sublime strike by Lalsiemthang Fimate, resulting in the 1-1 draw.
