Thoubal, November 17 2022:
Unknown miscreants set ablaze harvested paddy plants kept for threshing at Khangabok Angom Loukol in Thoubal district on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The destroyed paddy crop belonged to one Saikhom Etomcha, son of late S Gourachandra of Khangabok Makha Leikai.
Speaking to media persons at the farm site, Etomcha's wife Thaba vehemently condemned devilish mind- set of the perpetrators as such act of arson will only complicate hardships of the tenant farmers whose main source of livelihood is through paddy cultivation.
While stating that they have been toiling hard to ensure at-least some yield of paddy rice in-spite of facing the perils of shortage of fertilisers and absence of irrigation water, she said the paddy crop readied for threshing were found burnt when they went to gather the plants on Thursday.
Drawing the attention of CM N Biren and authorities concerned, she urged for arresting the culprits and punishing them stringently.
Meanwhile, Khangabok ZP ex-member Kh Rajmohon pointed out that there have been frequent incidents of burning harvested paddy plants in the area and denounced such irresponsible act of burning, thus rendering the hard work of the farmers despite lack of water and fertilisers to naught.
He appealed to all concerned not repeat such merciless acts in the future.
