Minister sticks to Imoinu fish fair stand

While informing that a total of Rs 3,33,65,780 was earned from selling 1,27,777 kg of different species of fish in the fish fair organised by the government in connection with Ningol Chakkouba on October 26 last, fisheries minister Heikham Dingo has reiterated that department of fisheries will organise similar fish fair on the occasion of Imoinu celebration i.e., on January 3 .
Speaking to media persons at his Secretariat office, Babupara, here, on Thursday, minister Dingo described the Ningol Chakkouba fish fair competition aS a grand success as it was participated by 200 fish farmers and had 125 stalls.
The fair exceeded the target set for production of 1 lakh kg fish, he added.
The most significant aspect of the fair was the production of 2,400 kg of local Sareng under the vision of CM N Biren, the minister said and noted that production of fish worth Rs 3.33 crore by local farmers is a proud moment for the fisheries department and its officers.
While stating that fish farming has been making immense contribution towards improving economy of the state, the minister further said that stalls for fisheries department will be opened in different event sites of the upcoming Sangai Festival, so that people interested in venturing into fish farming could get acquainted about different schemes and projects initiated by the department for the welfare of fish farmers.
Regarding to the proposed fish fair on the occasion of Imoinu celebration, he said local Sareng would be also be made available to the public.
Fisheries director H Balkrishna, who was also present during the press briefing, said that the department will work to produce more local Sareng so that it is available abundantly.
Cash awards will be given to the winners of the fish competition on the occasion of National Fish Farmers' Day.
While stating that the department is planning to increase fish production, he urged the people and fish farmers to support the initiative taken up by the department for the welfare of the people, fish farmers in particular.
