Imphal, February 07 2014 :
In the end it did not live up the billing of a final match in a tournament which witnessed fierce competition amongst the teams taking part.
Taking the field for the final, Imphal East District Football Association (IEDFA) and KIYC, Kshetri Iril Mapal, belied the expectations of the capacity crowd with the latter tamely going down by a margin of 3 goals to nil.
Displaying superior tactics and skills, IEDFA had better ball possession from the first whistle and toyed around with the boys from KIYC.
The domination was complete, with K Falguni bang on target to put his team ahead as early as the 19th minute of the first half.
Rattled by the early goal, KIYC put more men in attack but could not really make any meaningful inroads into the territory of IEDFA.
It was against the run of play that IEDFA found the net for the second time in the 32nd minute.
Launching a swift counter attack, defender O Prameshore took the ball deep down the right flank and unleashed a well measured long ball into the penalty area of KIYC.
K Rocky did well to read the flight of the ball and rose ahead of the defenders of KIYC to head the ball which nestled in the far right of the net in the 32nd minute of the game.
The lemon break was taken with IEDFA leading by a two goal cushion.
The players from IEDFA did not rest on their two goals lead and after taking control of the midfield, launched a series of attacks.
K Rocky, who scored the second goal, had a hand in the third goal, when he took the ball well past the half line and lobbed the towards Ch Risk, who rose splendidly to head the goal home to seal the match convincingly.
Th Bandona of IEDFA was cautioned 55th minute while Y Jackie of KIYC was cautioned in the 17th minute.
The winners walked away with a cash prize of 15,000 along with the trophy while the runners up had to settle for Rs 10,000 along with a trophy.
