The Government of Myanmar has asked the Government of India to stop ground levelling going on at present near Border Pillar No 78 for the Integrated Check Post until a proper survey of the Indo-Myanmar border is conducted jointly.
A reliable source informed that the Tamu DC has sent a complaint letter to the Government of Manipur and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India asking to suspend the ongoing ground levelling work.
Ground levelling work for construction of an ICP which is aimed at facilitating cross-border trade has been already initiated.
As the ground levelling work started near BP 78, the Myanmarese authority asked the Indian counterparts to halt the same work until the proposed joint survey is completed.
Saying that the ground levelling work is not very close to BP 79, the source maintained that the ground levelling work does not encroach upon Myanmarese territory.
On account of the letter of objection sent by the Tamu DC, a bilateral meeting of the two countries may be held very soon.
Among others, the meeting would be participated by MHA North East in-charge Shambhu Singh.
Even though it has not been officially confirmed, a bilateral meeting between Myanmarese officials and Indian officials may be held on Sunday at Moreh, informed the source.
