Suggesting that the people need not depend on plastic goods/carry-bags in their day-to-day life, Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Chairman MLA Dr Ng Bijoy said random disposal of plastics will have adverse ramifications, environmentally as well as pose threat to human health.
Speaking as the chief guest at a 'plastic free campaign' held today at Santhei natural Park in Andro Kharam Leikai, the MLA called upon the people to be environment-conscious and ensure that plastic wastes are collected and disposed off at disposal sites.
As inhaling fumes from burning of plastics has been scientifically confirmed to be one of the causative effects of lung cancer and resistant to degeneration even after burying the only means for safe usage of plastic goods is through the recycling process, explained the MPCB Chairman while conveying that plastic recycling plants have been established at Sadokpam near Sangaiprou and Mantripukhri Lamlongei areas.
He also stressed on continuous awareness campaigns for effective prevention of diseases caused by plastics and cautioned the parents/elders against gifting plastic toys to their children.
Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar in his address appealed to citizens visiting Santhei Natural Park to either avoid using plastic items at the public place or to ensure collection of plastics at designated sites.
Joined by local traders, volunteers of Andro Western Baruni Road Youth Club and Hooligan Volunteers' Organisation, Pishum conducted social service in the Park and surrounding locations.
