Imphal, October 24 2022:
The employees, administrative staff, coaches, PETs and lecturers (physical edu) of the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS), and players along with sports promoters of the state on Monday staged a peaceful procession condemning the allegations by Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) against YAS director Phulen Meitei.
According to a YAS press release, the procession was organised in the wake of a statement made by KKL general secretary Ngamkheingakpa Luwang, alleging the YAS director of wrongdoings in appointing mentors for Khelo India Centres and selecting disciplines for the centres when in fact the director had ensured that the appointment of mentors and selection of sports disciplines were conducted fairly, keeping in mind the development of sports in Manipur.
The participants of the procession showed their support for Phulen Meitei by holding various placards showcasing his works and capabilities as the YAS director.
Some of placards highlighted the director as "Best Director of the athletes", "Director who understands the plight of sportspersons", etc.
"The procession also highlighted that not all cadre posts are to be filled by IAS officers as sports is a very sensitive subject where the career span of the sportspersons are very short.
Hence, the people who were part of the procession shared that we need a director for the state sports department who understands the emotions and sensitivities of the sportspersons of the state and works towards their development irrespective of whether he/she is a cadre or not a cadre of IAS," the release added.
