Day of Older Persons observed

As elsewhere in the world, International Day of Older Persons was observed by National Programme for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE,) District Health Society, Thoubal at District Hospital, Thoubal on Monday.
The observance was attended by District Health Society, Thoubal chairman and DC A Subhash Singh as chief guest and National Health Mission Manipur state nodal officer Dr L Tilakeswari Devi as president, while District Hospital, Thoubal MS Dr Ch Memcha Devi and State Health Society Manipur state nodal officer Dr Y Premchandra Singh were present as guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Subhash remarked that as everyone will one day grow old, we must put an end to the habit of abandoning our elderly parents at old age homes.
While reminded that CM Biren had taken note of the matter, and announced that strict action would be taken up against anyone found abandoning their elderly parents, in addition to taking up many welfare schemes for the elderly people, the DC also cautioned that appropriate action will be taken in any case of abuse of the elderly persons.
The DC also urged for encouraging the elderly people and looking after them with love and care.
As part of the observance, a health check-up and a yoga event for elderly people were organised.
