Ukhrul, October 24 2022:
Advancements in the field of modern science especially with the introduction of Information & Technology through Smart Cellular Phones has changed the Tangkhul conventional means of sharing information.
The common and long practice of physical visitation/contact is nearing its end in the contemporary world.
The traditional practice of preserving the common progeny under one Pipa (head of clan) has been the long standing custom of the Tangkhul community.
The practice of visiting one another has numerous perspectives and purposes like enhancing the feeling of being a single family and love for the clan.
According to an independent survey conducted by the Correspondent in Hunphun/Ukhrul, a number of village elders while expressing their fascination with the new technologies stated that the new system of sharing information has brought massive changes to the Tangkhul traditional lifestyle.
The beautiful practice of visiting one another be it for ceremonial or sad events have been replaced by phone calls.
The new system has eased the workload, but the importance of knowing families of the same clan and strengthening relations have gradually declined over the years.
A village elder, Worngam Muirangwo (75) shared that he never thought of such a fast and powerful information sharing system.
Pointing out that physical visits have almost been replaced by telephonic conservations, the elder mentioned that he dearly misses his relatives, grandchildren and close families as they hardly visit him.
"My grandchildren hardly knew our clan members and relatives", he asserted.
